Seung-Yeong Song
Dean of the College of Engineering of Ewha Womans University
Ewha Womans University established the world’s first engineering college for women in 1996. As of February 2025, the Ewha Womans University College of Engineering consists of one division with two majors and seven departments: the Division of Electronic and Semiconductor Engineering(Electronic and Electrical Engineering and Semiconductor Engineering majors) and the departments of Food Science & Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering and Materials Science, Architecture, Architectural and Urban Systems Engineering, Environmental Science and Engineering, Climate and Energy Systems Engineering, and Mechanical and Biomedical Engineering. Currently, the college has 2,680 undergraduate and 200 graduate students enrolled, as well as 77 full-time faculty members.
The Ewha Womans University College of Engineering has devoted itself to cultivating critical thinking, a proactive mindset, and leadership in the engineering professionals who will lead our future society. During the last decade, the College of Engineering has been selected for government-run large scale education programs such as the Engineering Education Innovation Center Assistance Program, the Seoul Accord Funding Program, the Brain Korea 21 (BK21) Projects, and the Semiconductor Track Program, and we offer various education programs to undergraduate and graduate students for more in-depth engineering education. In addition, we operate academic-industry collaboration programs, including the Academic-Professional Recruitment Scholarship, the Construction Quotation Practicum with Hyundai Engineering & Construction, the LG Display Academic-Professional Scholarship, and internship programs, to foster students’ practical skillsets and ability to adapt to on-site work.
The College of Engineering is outfitted with advanced equipment and instruments for laboratory and practical training at state-of-the-art facilities such as the Asan Engineering Building, the New Engineering Building, and the Research Cooperation Building, covering 33,600 square meter(10,200 pyeong). It also houses six research institutes, including the Center for Convergence Research of Advanced Technologies, where outstanding researchers conduct group and individual research projects which have achieved world-class recognition. College of Engineering alumnae stand out in various fields, including industry, academia, and research at home and abroad, and in light of the growing significance of engineering as a practical discipline in diverse professional sectors, graduates of the College of Engineering can look forward to continuously broadening career opportunities.
The Ewha Womans University College of Engineering, which opened a new chapter as the world’s first engineering college for women, is now driven by the passion of all its members, working tirelessly toward our shared goal of becoming one of the world’s top engineering schools. We kindly ask for your warm support and encouragement for our efforts to achieve this goal, and we look forward to seeing you all realize your dreams with us.
Thank you.
