On April 10, we had the opportunity to welcome Ms. YuJin Jeong, a Junior Energy Modeller at the International Energy Agency (IEA), who delivered an insightful lecture on her career journey and the role of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). The session began with an introduction to the OECD as an international organization dedicated to building better policies for better lives, highlighting its global reach, policy areas, and collaborative approach with governments, industries, and academia. Ms. Jeong also shared her current work at the IEA, where she focuses on energy modeling in the transport sector, contributing to long-term projections and policy recommendations related to sustainable energy transitions.

The lecture further explored career opportunities within the OECD, including the Young Associate Programme and internship pathways. She provided a detailed overview of recruitment processes, required qualifications, and key competencies, emphasizing the importance of clear career direction, quantitative skills, and alignment with OECD core values. Drawing from her own experience, she explained how internships and early exposure to policy work shaped her career trajectory, as well as the differences between public and private sector roles, based on her time at a major Korean corporation and the OECD.

In the latter part of the session, Ms. Jeong shared practical advice for students aspiring to work in international organizations. She emphasized the value of persistence, strategic applications, and developing relevant technical skills such as data analysis and programming. The lecture concluded with reflections on her decision to pursue a master’s degree and her experiences working in a multicultural environment in Paris, encouraging students to actively pursue global opportunities and remain open to challenging career paths.

정유진 선생님은 IEA에서의 현재 업무에 대해서도 공유해주시며 교통 부문의 에너지 모델링에 주력하여 지속 가능한 에너지 전환과 관련된 장기 전망 및 정책 권고안 수립에 기여하고 있다는 것 또한 언급해주셨습니다.

또한 ‘젊은 전문가 프로그램(Young Associate Programme)’ 및 인턴십 경로를 포함한 OECD 내 진로 기회에 대해서도 말씀해주셨습니다. 채용 절차, 필수 자격 요건, 핵심 역량에 대한 상세한 개요를 알려주시며 명확한 진로 방향 설정, 정량적 역량, 그리고 OECD 핵심 가치와의 부합하는지 여부가 중요하다는 점을 강조 해주셨습니다. 선생님께서는 자신의 경험을 바탕으로 인턴십과 정책 업무에 대한 조기 경험이 자신의 경력 경로를 어떻게 형성했는지 설명해주습니다. 한국의 대기업에서도 근무하셨기 때문에 그 경험을 OECD에서의 근무 경험과 비교하며 공공 부문과 민간 부문 역할의 차이점에 대해서도 설명해주셨습니다.
